MicroFest

Selections from the Third LCIFF: Begin the evening with award-winning and popular films at our previous LCIFF, which took place this past November.  This includes our Golden Honeycomb-winner, Fragments.

  • Fragments (2014, 27 m., USA, Dir: Ljiljana Novakovic).  Xavier, a complex, enigmatic man, goes through life mostly unacknowledged. Anika approaches him at a bus stop, and a strange friendship develops.  A wonderfully offbeat and fascinating film; don’t miss this one!
  • B&E (2016, 13 m., Canada, Dir: Andre Rehal).  In this crime thriller from LCIFF veteran Rehal, Denny and Naz, a pair of hired guns looking for their next job are contracted to retrieve a ‘bag’. Getting no other details from their contact--and in need of money--the two undertake the job. Confusion and death ensue.

  • Wintry Spring (2015, 16 m., Egypt, Dir: Mohammed Kamel).  Nour, a schoolgirl who lives alone with her father, goes through a crisis with the unexpected arrival of puberty.  She cannot tell her dad. He doesn’t understand her change in mood, which results in tension between father and daughter.

Micro-Set

A "Micro-Set" live performance by Izland Tonik, a Reggae/Soca band from Plattsburgh, New York. With a unique mix of musical backgrounds and influences, Izland Tonik is infused with flavor.

MicroBrews, refreshments and food truck available on site!

Music Films

We conclude the evening with a selection of films that have been made by LCIFF-alum directors.  Under the Sky…, Silence, and Harvest were also featured at this past November’s festival. Additionally, there may be a few unannounced surprises…

  • The Sky Over Berlin of My Childhood (2015, 12 m., Kazakhstan, Dir: Bakhtiyar Islamov). A surreal and absurd piece of experimental cinema from Kazakhstan!  A meditation on memories of the Soviet empire’s collapse.
  • Silence (2016, 5 m., Japan, Dir: Hamish Downie).  Surreal and beautiful. Discovered trying to escape, a woman must survive the night with her abusive girlfriend.
  • Corruption (2017, 4 m., USA, Dir: Danielle Giordano). A performance on the Strand stage by Kevin Sabourin.
  • Anger is a Thief (2012, 6 m., USA, Dir: Jason Andrew Torrance).  A music video for the KUFEN song, Anger takes 8mm home movie footage from the artist of a visit to the WTC in the late 70s and reconfigures it into a visual deconstruction of chaos.
  • Excerpts from Stars In My Eyes (2017, 4 m., USA, Dir: Kevin Sabourin).  A complete surprise.  Prepare yourself.
  • Like Morrissey (2017, 5 m., USA, Dirs: Michael Devine and Jean Ulysse). Music video for Famous Letter Writer, a local music project that self-describes as “The dream our phones dream.”
  • Arcade Hero (2015, 4 m., USA, Dir: Michael Fisher). A dance film. E-Knock cuts loose all night long in an arcade. 80s style.
  • Another One (2016, 4 m., USA, Dirs: Antwon Levee and Margali Rae).  Music video for local rap artist Trixx.
  • Harvest (2016, 5 m., USA, Dirs: Michael Devine and Jean Ulysse). Part of AdironDOCS: a documentary initiative celebrating the culture of the Adirondack coast. Harvest scopes a look at art in the alleyway: the new "Harvest" mural of painter Gharan Burton in downtown Plattsburgh.
  • Free Radicals (1979, 4 m., USA, Dir: Len Lye). A classic of American avant-garde filmmaking, this film play with simple scratches and drum beats to create a mesmerizing effect.
  • Recluse A/B (2015, 9 m., USA, Dir: Jason Andrew Torrance).  Let me quote filmmaker Dan Zukovic about this film: “a compellingly bizarre piece of work, and a nice wackload of gerbil s**t crazy images that surreally stick...” A young man withdraws from the world into a surreal psychodrama of his own devising.  Song by Adrian Aardvark.

Volunteer

Want to help the LCIFF?  One of the ways you could help is to volunteer some time.  We need people on the event days to usher and help out at the box office.  Also, throughout the year we have envelopes to stuff and posters to hang.  In other words, there is a lot to do.  Maybe you have a specialized skill that could be harnessed for the festival?  Click here to fill out a simple form to volunteer.

Donate

The LCIFF is a non-profit dedicated to improving the cultural life of the North Country through cinema.  Any and all donations, no matter the size, are greatly appreciated.
